P2A2023 CANADIAN GRAVEL CHAMPIONSHIPS
P2A is pleased to have been selected as the host for the inaugural Canadian Gravel Championships. It seems fitting that the oldest gravel race in Canada will host this prestigious event. As is tradition in Gravel racing all competitors will be on the same course as all other competitors, at the same time (with start seeding to accommodate various categories).
We welcome participants from across Canada to join us at the 2023 P2A and enjoy such old favourites as the Mcintyre/Nixon Rail Line (abandoned rail line - mostly black mud), Luna Adventures, and the beautiful (and muddy) forest of The Prengerlaan. Then there is a big section of gravel rail trail which is notorious for headwinds. More mud at the Mineral Springs Road Mud Chute and in short order you are at the (almost) world famous “mudslide of death” - the Powerline Road Mudslide. Just when you think you've made it you're hit with the equally legendary climb up Old Martin Road. You're only 3km from the finish but it is steep, rutted, wet and you're tired. This is a worthy championship course.
In order to compete in the 2023 Canadian Gravel Championships you must enter through the P2A CENTO. All championship competitors will require appropriate licensing to be eligible to participate in the Gravel Championships (unlicensed riders will be included in P2A results, but not in Canadian Championships results). Elite and Junior 17-18 are required to have a UCI license and Canadian Nationality. All masters categories will require at least a Provincial Cycling License. Other nationalities will be allowed to race, but not compete for the Championships Title.
Be prepared! Event goes rain or shine! Bring a spare tube, pump, patch kit, rain jacket and gloves. Below you will find the Elevation Profile for the 2023 CANADIAN GRAVEL CHAMPIONSHIPS & P2A Cento. This is the ideal course we have planned. It can change up to and including Race Day depending upon spring conditions. It is 112.5K long, has 896m of climbing and is 65% unpaved surface (stripes). Many will know this plot is from Ridewithgps. Will we release the route for download? We don't know at this time. P2A is concerned about trespassing on the private property that makes the race what it is. If racers behave with respect to private property we will release the route. It only takes a couple of bad actors to mess things up for us and the others participating. If we do release it, it will be very close to race day. CLICK ON THE ELEVATION PROFILE BELOW TO VIEW A LARGER VERSION
There has been snow and sleet on race day so be ready for anything. Helmets are mandatory.
PLEASE NOTE: - Unlike most races, the route, and therefore the distances, can change up to and including race day. The P2A has a unique blend of public roads, public property, public trails and private land. Circumstances can cause a change to our route.
Based on age as of Dec 31/23 and your race license.
